Draft one of Nanorimo done!

This year was an on and off year for reading. I read some books I absolutely loved and several I felt pretty meh about.

Frozen 2 has character problems. For example, why does Anna leave Kristoff?

I’ve created a two-part plot breaking down different aspects of the movie. This time around, I’m talking about plot and artistry; the next post will be about characters and specific issues I have with this sequel compared to other sequels.

When I told my boyfriend I was thinking about doing NaNiRiMo, he started laughing uncontrollably. “NaNo what?” he asked between chuckles.

Unlike many people, I didn’t get into Sophie Kinsella via her popular Confessions of a Shopaholic series.

To summarize the synopsis from the back cover, this is a story about a space squad of misfits who stumbles on a secret of galactic importance. It’s told from seven different points of view, and it doesn’t really matter whose perspective you’re reading at the moment—they’re all hilarious.

Everyone’s got a guilty pleasure, right? That thing we enjoy but don’t want anyone else to know about it because it’s embarrassing, weird, childish, etc. I decided to come out about mine: Star Wars junior novels.

When you get a kick-in-the-pants email sent from a writing mentor at 4:30 a.m., it makes you think about your life. In my case, the email wake-up was something along the lines of, "Why have you been fiddling with one manuscript for the last six years? You should have at least two or three complete manuscripts at this point. If you want a career as a writer, you need to step it up."

Books like this—romance in genre terms, or possibly love stories—may be regarded as "cotton candy" or "fluff," but I disagree. I think these books fulfill an important purpose.
